A World Not Ours (2012) | Solidarity Screening

We, at Studio/K, strongly condemn any form of violence. The eruption of violence in the past few weeks in Israel and Palestine pains us and makes us feel powerless. Nevertheless, we would like to make a contribution, be it small, to the humanitarian aid in Gaza. We are angered by the unwillingness of the Dutch government to help Palestinians that are facing ongoing oppression. We channel this anger by organizing a day of solidarity on the 12th of November. There will be a second hand clothing fair, followed by a screening of the film A World Not Ours (2012) by Danish-Palestinian filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel. All proceeds will go to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund.

An intimate, and often humorous, portrait of three generations of exile in the refugee camp of Ein el-Helweh, in southern Lebanon. Based on a wealth of personal recordings, family archives, and historical footage, the film is a sensitive, and illuminating study of belonging, friendship, and family in the lives of those for whom dispossession is the norm, and yearning their daily lives.
