Lissy, Tom, and Ellen all belong to the Lunies family. Their last name seems to be their only commonality, as they each lead completely different lives. While Tom, a conductor, is trying to complete a musical composition, his sister Ellen struggles with her inner demons. Their mother Lissy breathes a sigh of relief when her husband, who is suffering from dementia, is finally placed in a care home. However, her happiness is short-lived when her own health suddenly fails. In truth, there is nothing that truly connects these family members—until they are confronted with death…

Sterben, Matthias Glasner’s fourth feature film, was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlinale and won a Silver Bear for Best Screenplay.
