The Gullspång Miracle (ENG SUBS)
The Norwegian sisters Kari and May buy an apartment in the Swedish hamlet of Gullspång. To their astonishment, the seller, Olaug, bears a striking resemblance to their older sister, who committed suicide in 1988. She even has the same nickname, Lita. The devout sisters immediately believe it’s a miracle. This was meant to be. The lonely Olaug is warmly welcomed into the large, loving family of Kari and May. This is just the beginning of a phenomenal rollercoaster in which coincidences and revelations follow one another at an ever-increasing pace.
A fascinating family drama turns into a Coen Brothers comedy, a true crime story, and ultimately Twin Peaks in real life. Nothing is what it seems. Or is it? The Gullspång Miracle is a completely captivating film about the complexity of family ties, identity, and the persistence of beliefs.
Before The Gullspång Miracle, we’ll be screening the short film Wander to Wonder:
Mary, Billybud, and Fumbleton are the stars of an ’80s TV show called ‘Wander to Wonder’. After the death of their creator, the trio must fend for themselves in the studio. As their hunger grows, the show becomes increasingly grim.
This sinister stop-motion film, with an incredible eye for detail, was selected for the 2023 Venice Film Festival. Filmmaker Nina Gantz previously made the short animated film Edmond (IFFR 2015), for which she won a BAFTA, among other awards.
