Utama (ENG SUBS)
The film Utama begins with a visually stunning scene of an elderly man named Virginio walking towards the rising sun over the mountains. His face, weathered and lined like the earth beneath his feet, shows the toll of his years spent grazing his herd of fluffy llamas on the scorched plateau of Bolivia’s Andes Mountains. Virginio and his wife Sisa live without access to running water or electricity, with Sisa tasked with fetching water while Virginio tends to the llamas. Unfortunately, the region has been suffering from a severe drought caused by climate change, with no rain and no snow on the mountain tops, leading to the drying up of the village well. While a friend explains that “time has grown weary” to Virginio, the truth is that global warming is making life unbearable, though it remains unspoken.
